The opportunity

If you want to enter the world of digital media and be part of the change and growth of one of Canada’s long established and respected broadcasters this is your chance. CBC Digital Operations is looking for a Full Stack Developer to join our growing team.

Our new Full Stack Developer will be responsible for producing both the underlying frameworks and main digital properties that make up CBC.ca. While strong core Java and HTML/CSS/JS skills are ideal for this role, we welcome people who feel they can contribute in non-traditional ways.

This is an opportunity for a developer who is confident in their capabilities, eager to innovate and open to learning. New project work that you may work on includes:
  • Building the information sharing and streaming for the Olympics.
  • Creating data models to understand our audience and how they consume and access web content.
  • Leveraging analytics to create a personalized 1-to-1 experience uniquely customized for each user.
Who you are and where are you now? You are a Front or Back end developer looking to move into a Full Stack role. Or, you may be working as a Full Stack Developer already.   • Collaborate with fellow team members, the design team and Architects to ensure the highest quality product is developed and best practices are followed.
  • Help the team to provide task breakdown and effort estimates to assist planning and implementation.
  • Work and collaborate with QA team members to facilitate successful releases.
  • Work with content-area development teams to assist in the implementation and support of digital properties based on the platforms and frameworks developed by Digital Operations.

Job Requirements

  • The education. A Computer Science, Engineering degree or equivalent is preferred, but we know not everyone gains their programming skills this way.
  • The passion. You have a passion for information and technology and you are enthusiastic about the opportunity to link the two pieces together.
  • The desire to learn. You have the ability to quickly learn new technologies and respond to change by learning and adapting.
  • The communication skills. You know how to listen and relay empathy and understanding for diverse perspectives.
  • The confidence and the humility. Your powers of observation help you understand your audience and communicate with the right level of detail. You are open to the ideas of others.
  • The creativity and adaptability. You can adapt quickly, innovate solutions and embrace the new while accepting the ambiguous.
  • The Agile experience. You believe in the Agile methodology deeply but you are flexible and open to the real world twists and turns.
  • The hands-on expertise. You have hands-on professional experience developing large complex web-based applications. Your strengths might lie in UI based technologies, Java or database development technologies.
  • The extra knowledge. An understanding of accessibility standards and guidelines and digital Content Management Systems would be an asset.
